Jock’s on Politics; The Ingraham Angle
On February 16, LeBron James and Kevin Durant joined Cari Champion for the Uber ride of a lifetime in Akron, Ohio. They discussed NBA All-Star Weekend 2018 goals, the pressures of being a top athlete, social injustice, and the current climate in politics.As they rode along, t Lebron James and Kevin Durant commented on our current president , Donald Trump.
Lebron James called president Trump a bum, and stated that “his racist comments are laughable”. Lebron also said that “the climate is hot for athletes to speak up about what's happening in our world”. As He observed that people will always try to find a way to make you feel beneath them, no matter how successful you get, the impact you have on people,once your surpass another, they envy it. Laura Ingraham, a Fox news reporter, stated that Lebron’s comments are barely intelligible, not to mention an ungrammatical take on President Trump
Laura claims that she's numb to his commentary , and mimicked Lebron’s language, while making a funny gesture with her body and mouth. Ingraham continued to insult the players: “Must they run their mouths like that unfortunately kids and some adults take these ignorant comments serious. This is an attempt when you leave high school early to join the NBA. It's always unwise to seek political advice from someone who get paid 100 Million dollars a year to bounce a ball”
She continued to say that “Lebron and Kevin are great players, but that since no one voted for them, they should keep any political commentary to themselves. She argued that the people elected Trump to be their coach and to just “shut up and dribble”.
Lebron stated “he will not shut up and dribble”. He pledged to keep using his platform as a professional athlete to be a role model for his young fans.
This shows me that you really can't feed into the what people say in the media because it will be made into a big social problem that is everyone's business, when honestly it's not. Laura’s comments shouldn't even be mentioned on the news because we have way more serious political problems that this world is facing and countries are suffering. As a country, we need to be a whole and not torment one another over disagreements. In this society, it’s supposed to be the land of the free, = where everyone is equal and has the same right to free speech. It seems like that promise is slowly fading and racial problems are rising. It seems as if history is repeating itself.
